Day 5

Today was the most interesting day so far. The day began with a great devo time led by Tara Cruse. This morning we went to a school and did a VBS for 250 students. It was a great experience. As soon as we arrived we were treated with hugs and warm smiles. Those smiles did not end as the day continued. The puppets made an appearance, they were loved as always. In the afternoon we were lead by some Belizians into their villages to start I Am Second groups. So many great stories. One group met with seven locals and led them trough the story of the woman at the well. All the teams have a appointment to meet with others tomorrow or later in the week.

Tonight was the coolest celebration time of the week. Our students shared what God was speaking to them. We hope to share all of the stories in detail later but for now know that God is at work starting groups and making his name great. Pray for us tomorrow as we go back out to share Jesus and make disciples.

Day 3

Well today was a great day. Today was the day we had set aside for training of leaders in the local churches. We prayed for months that people would show up and participate. We had around 20 adults and students attend. The greatest part was watching our students training them. They were great. There are more stories to come about the training but I will just say that we are waiting to see if any of of the leaders will take and use what we shared with them. I am confident that they will. After training we went into the village and played pick up soccer with some locals. We were owned! It was not pretty. Tomorrow we are heading to church services in four different churches. It will be a great experience for each team. Then we are heading to a Mayan temple. I hope to post some pics soon – maybe tomorrow. Well for now keep praying for safety and for God to be glorified in all we do and say.

Belizian Chinese Food?

After landing and unloading our stuff at the mission house we went to eat at a Chinese restaurant. It was great. After some prayer and orientation several different games have broken out at the mission house around card tables. Everyone is doing great. Tomorrow night we will be having a fellowship dinner with pastors and church leaders. Please pray for partnerships to be made around the gospel.

We are through security!!

All right all 31 of us are here through security. All bags were checked and we are ready to go! Let every know when we land.

Almost the big day

Tomorrow morning we leave for Belize. This trip promises to be one of those moments in that you remember for the rest of your life. Please pray for us as we go. Everything is packed. Now we have to get through security, customs, get on the plane, land, then drive an hour to the mission house where we are staying. I will try update often, so check back and stay in touch. Comment below and we real read it to the team.

Pray for the Belize Team:

Finally, the time is here. We are getting packed and ready to go.  In just 3 days we will be on our way to Belize. We have spent hours and hours preparing for this trip.  But the truth is that despite all of the planning that has been done the coolest stuff will happen despite our plans.  I’m great with that!  Our goal while in Belize is to offer discipleship training to the local churches and to encourage them as they minster to their villages and communities.  These communities are made of many people that claim Christ but there is a spiritual shallowness to their walk (not unlike what we find in DFW).  We are not going as saviors or as heros.  We are simply going as messengers and servants.  We are not going to do God’s work.  We are going to do the work that God HAS GIVEN US to do.  We will be working in villages, planting small groups.  These groups will then be handed off to local churches who will maintain and continue discipleship.  Part of our mission is to help train local leaders in the I AM SECOND model of small group discipleship.  This is really exciting because our youth group has used this model in their school all semester.  We have seen God do great things and seen leaders born as a result of it.  Needless to say, we are seeking that the Lord bless our work.  None of this works unless Jesus blesses it.  Will you pray with us/for us?  Will you commit to being a prayer partner for our team?  Can we count on you.  If we can comment below!  Let us know that you are praying. In fact, I will be updating this blog throughout our trip with stories, victories, and prayer needs.  So, check back often. If you comment on this site or on our Facebook page your comments will be read to the team.  They will hear your prayers in their ears.  Will you come with us?

On this Mother’s Day

My mom, dad and daughter

Today people all around the world are celebrating Mother’s Day.  My mother was the rock of our family.  We probably would have all killed each other had it not been for her.  She was always there to love and care for us. She would play with us and also let us know when we “crossed a line.”  She was there when I was dumped for the first time (I was dumped before I ever went out with the girl.  Its a long story, tell you about it later). She was there when I felt anxiety at school because I was not sure that I had any friends.  She stood by me in midst of every trial.  She is my mom.  I value here and I love her.  No doubt most of you can share a similar experience. I realize that not every mom is perfect and certainly mine had her flaws but she was there and she loved us.  She modeled for me what it means to be selfless.  The least that I can do is honor her.  Ephesians 5 tells us to “honor your father and mother.”  Honor means that you do more than visit on the holidays but that you love and respect them.  Some may say, I don’t even like my parents, how can I love and respect them?  The truth is that if you would begin by loving and respecting your parents chances are that you will begin to like them.  Could it be that most of the strife that exists in your home is because no one loves or honors one another?  So, on Mother’s Day thank her, give her gifts and take her out to dinner.  But most of all….honor her.

I AM SECOND

Tonight we kick off our DNOW with a Rally featuring Daniel Sepulveda, former Baylor Bear and Pittsburg Steeler. Following the rally tonight we will begin Friday Night @ 6 pm and go through Sunday Morning.  Our prayer is that God’s Spirit will move and students’ heats will be awakened to His truth.  God is giving us a vision for our area and this weekend we take the first step in faith to seeing God move in our schools.  Pray for our students and those who will lead them.  Our students will be trained in small group strategies by a team from I AM SECOND.  They will then be able to lead small groups in their school, at home, at work or after practice.  Image
